I was commissioned to build my version of Sam Maloof’s timeless style of rocking chair. I chose cocobolo because of the strong grain pattern and deep, rich colors. The high, natural-oil content of cocobolo requires the use of epoxy glues for all the joinery as well as the bent lamination rockers. Cocobolo is one specie of wood that can cause severe allergic reactions for some people. Use breathing protection and limit skin contact with this wood, if you choose to work with it.
