Description: This oak chair provides the basic knowledge and skill building exercises necessary to create more complex chairs in the future. It is a rustic representation of the Appalachian mountain “settin chair” with a woven hickory bark seat. Primary emphasis on the use of traditional chair making tool, i.e., spoke shave, draw knives and the use of a shaving horse. Materials and use of tools are included in the class fee.

Description: This class includes preparing the wood surfaces, using stains, dyes and grain fillers. The finished will be wipe-on varnishes/urethanes, shellac and oil finishing. Materials for this class are included in the class fee.

Description: This class includes spray finishing with lacquer, shading, tinting and rubbing out film finishes. French polishing with shellac will also be done. Materials for this class are included in the class fee.

Description: This class covers sharpening chisels, plane irons, scrapers, carving and turning tools. You will learn the procedures to hollow grind bevels and hone the cutting edge with many different honing devices. Bring a new (or in good condition) chisel, plane iron or scraper to this class.

Description: This class will address fixing loose joints, repairing or replacing broken parts. Touch-up of color and filling dents will also be covered. Bring a small chair or furniture piece that is in need of repair.

| Description: This class introduces steam bending and bent lamination. An oval Shaker Box will be made in this class. Making steam bending and bent lamination parts will be demonstrated. Learning how to make steam bending and bent lamination forms is a very important part of this class. |
